Japan U.S. Embassy - 9/13/2001

I thought you would like to see a couple of pictures of the U.S. Embassy here in Tokyo. It's about a five minute walk from the IBM Building where Dottie works.
As I rounded the corner and came to the gate around 4:00 in the afternoon I saw a small group of photographers and cameramen. Yet, all was very quiet -- it seemed an unnatural quiet. The flag flying at half mast was barely moving in the light air. It was overcast and getting dark early.
As I was taking these pictures, wouldn't you know it, but I was interviewed and asked what I thought first about the tragedy and then if I felt safe living in Japan. I wish I could have been more profound, but I wasn't and answered with only a few short sentences. (Yes it was tragic and I felt very safe living in Japan).
While I was there a few people came up and left flowers and I'm sure the area under the tent will become more and more crowded as this sad week comes to an end.
